What happens when we die?

Exploring Islam

Islam believes in a Heaven called 'Jannah' and a hell called 'Johanna'. Hell is a physical place of torment, punishment, and suffering for disbelievers and sinners who fail Allah's test. It is described as having seven distinct gates or levels, with punishments tailored to specific sins. It is considered a place of ultimate humiliation. Heaven is a garden of everlasting bliss, but when you die, you stay in your grave until a time of judgement, and then they are resurrected, and Allah will judge how well they lived their life on earth and decide where you go. The Quran says Heaven has many levels, and those with a moustache will be green to represent Islam, and you will have 70 sets of clothes, plus you will never gain weight. The most talked-about reward for Muslims is men will be rewarded with 72 virgins. Some believe this is only for martyrs of Islam. Others say it’s for every male, and your wife on earth will be in charge of them. Also, according to the Quran, women are only allowed to be with one man in heaven, unlike the men. In Islam you can get access to Heaven by doing good works on earth as well as by following Allah and the Quran. Ultimately, Allah can decide to punish who he pleases and forgive who he pleases.

You may be surprised to learn Judaism, Christianity, and Islam started at the same point and initially all believed in the same one God who created everything. During the life of Jesus, a new group was formed known as the followers of Christ, who would become known as Christians and follow the Bible's teachings. Christians and Jews continue to believe in the same God the Father, but Judaism does not accept Jesus as the Messiah, only following the Torah, and is still awaiting the arrival of the Messiah. Islam split from Christianity when a prophet called Mohammed claimed to have been visited by the Archangel Gabriel in 610 AD and revealed messages that would become the Quran, the book of Islam, and lead Muslims (people who follow Islam) to worship Allah, their one true, supreme and universal God. As with Judaism, Muslims believe Jesus was only a prophet and not the Messiah, as believed by Christians. Many Christians don't believe an angel appeared to Mohammed, and those that do believe it was not the Archangel Gabriel but a fallen angel sent to deceive Christians and lead them away from following God and His word in the Bible. Although there are many similarities between Judaism, Christianity and Islam, there are many differences; for example, all three have a very different view on the afterlife. Below are videos to help explain Islam and what happens when we die, plus how Jesus differs from Christian beliefs.
