Prophecy and the End Times

Are we living in the end times?
Jesus' disciples asked Him the same question. He told them about wars and rumours of wars, famines, earthquakes and false prophets, and called these "the beginning of the birth pains" (Matthew 24:6–8). He also said that "concerning that day and hour no one knows" (Matthew 24:36). So the Bible doesn't call us to set dates. It calls us to be ready, like the wise virgins with oil in their lamps (Matthew 25:1–13). The best way to be ready for His return is to know Him today.
Can we trust prophecy?
Prophecy is a controversial area within Christianity. Many Christians do not trust prophecy unless it has come from the Bible, even though Christians would accept that God can give someone a message in a supernatural way to share, which is the essence of prophecy. What it is not is fortune telling. The Bible warns against sorcery, fortune telling and mediums as being detestable to the Lord. The Bible says this practice dishonours God and puts you in danger. Many believe it can open doorways for evil spirits to come through. The Bible contains prophecies that foretell future events, such as what will happen in the end times. Christians believe these messages come directly from God. Prophets are believed to have a gift of the Holy Spirit with the ability to hear God's voice and communicate His message. However, in John 14:26 it tells us we all have the ability to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit. Prophesying without God or against Bible teaching is not prophecy from the correct source.
How do you test prophecy?
The Bible warns of being deceived by false prophets, which is why Christians believe it is necessary to pray for confirmation of any prophecy received and weigh prophecy against Scripture. Many Christians will not listen to prophecy on the grounds it cannot be trusted, but the Bible states in many places God uses prophecy to communicate His will, reveal secrets and guide humanity. Not everyone who claims to speak for God does. Scripture gives us simple tests. Does it agree with the Bible and honour Jesus as Lord? (1 John 4:1–3) Does the person's life show good fruit? (Matthew 7:15–20) Bring every prophecy to God in prayer, and hold on only to what is good (1 Thessalonians 5:21). Some believe prophecy can help strengthen people's beliefs and help those that need to hear it. Some believe there are those that hear warnings so we can pray against it to prevent an event from happening. Below is a selection of end-time prophecies and visions and links to further prophecies.
